We will get things wrong. Every publication does. What separates an outlet you can trust from one you cannot is what happens next.
What we do when we are wrong
- We fix the piece and say what changed. A dated correction note goes at the bottom of the article stating what was wrong and what it now says. We do not silently edit a page and pretend it always read that way.
- Serious errors get their own note. If a mistake changed the meaning of a story, we say so at the top, not buried at the bottom.
- We do not delete. Taking a page down does not unpublish it, it just removes the correction from view.
Tell us
Write to [CORRECTIONS EMAIL]. Point at the specific claim and, if you have one, the document that contradicts it. That gets a faster answer than a general complaint.
If you are the subject of something we published and you believe it is wrong, say so and we will look at it on the same terms as anyone else.
